Short Notice #11

Sorry this one is a bit late. I had originally set it to update automatically but it didn't.

This months script was a lot of fun to write, it's inspired by  Igor Stravinsky's Ballet Petrushka but with a sci-fi twist. Although I do think I botched the end up. Those last two pages were a bit of a pain to write and I think if I'd had an extra page I could have dialled up the tragedy element. Let me know what you think, I'm interested to see people's take on it.

As always any feedback or comments can be emailed to shortnotice.comics@gmail.com

Short Notice #11: Love and Sheep (download script here)

On a distant colony a comedian in hiding falls in love with a dancer. Is it love or madness?

Rules re-cap:
All I ask is if you use the scripts, that I get sent a copy of the finished piece to post here on the site and of course that I get a writing credit when or where ever the work is used to showcase your work.

  1. Honestly I have been scouring the internet in silence looking for a writer to collab with, out of all that I have seen you seem to have the best understanding of writing for comics. Your scripts are well written, I could work with them, but the stories themselves are a bit boring, with the exception of the Zombie script, I have not gotten that, "ohhh,I want to draw that" feeling.

We are artists, we like to draw Cool stuff, let's get some blood and guts going, some swords, make an artist want to draw it. Just some feedback.

    1. Hi Alex,

Thanks for the comment, it's honest and I appreciate that. I would say that I think personal tastes have a lot to do with it and that I definitely aim to put something in each script that's going to challenge an artist; whether it's Mythical creatures, parkour in Victorian London, or even Vikings.

To date the most popular script I've posted is Short Notice #7. There's nothing in it that really screams out to be drawn, but the reason I think that it's so popular, is it provides an artist with a real test of skill: Draw two guys fighting, in an alien building, on an alien world. The ambiguity of the script is the challenge, it can be as detailed or as basic as you want, no two artists are going to draw the same alien-ness. Whereas Blood, guts and swords are going to look pretty much the same every time.

I do hope you'll keep checking out the scripts and leaving more feedback, it really is appreciated. I'll even try and work in the blood, guts and swords into a future issue.

      Stay Awesome
