Short Notice #13

Afternoon all,

This months script is based on something I've been working on listed as Operation Alaskan Phill over on my blog.

The origin came from watching news reports of Hurricane Sandy on the BBC and there was a cycle of footage of people taking a selfie with the raging ocean behind them, the people doing Gangnam Style dance, and in amongst it was a really brief shot of an old man just sitting on a bench looking out at the storm.
And I thought to myself "That old guy knows something". For the next hour that image and thought percolated in my head and by the end it had evolved into this image of a hit man assassinating the storm and from there it was a short leap to imagine the storm was caused by a god.

STORMING OF BRAINS!

Evening all,

I've spent the last two days going over everything people have said they'd like to practice drawing and started to fashion everything in to stories for the next few months scripts. As can be seen in this helpful yet confusing diagram:

So all of this was taken and blended with some ideas I've been playing with and I can now reveal to you the working titles for the Scripts up until August PLUS a brief insight into what September holds.

I should say now that this isn't set in stone and may swap issues around. If there's things you want to practice drawing that aren't on my awesome diagram let me know at shortnotice.comics@gmail.com and if I can't work them into one of the stories above I'll work them into the stories for October, November or December.

Thanks for all the feedback so far it is greatly appreciated.

Short Notice #12

Sorry this one is late. I've been away and again mistakenly put my faith in the auto upload.

This script came out of an email asking for a story that required different drawing styles. The styles referenced should be seen as suggestions and feel free to substitute any of them for another style.

Not sure I did this one as well as I could have. I was trying to play with the use of captions in conjunction panels without any dialogue. Overall I think it feels like a summarised version of a slightly longer story. I may give it another pass and upload the updated version at a later date.

Short Notice #11

Sorry this one is a bit late. I had originally set it to update automatically but it didn't.

This months script was a lot of fun to write, it's inspired by  Igor Stravinsky's Ballet Petrushka but with a sci-fi twist. Although I do think I botched the end up. Those last two pages were a bit of a pain to write and I think if I'd had an extra page I could have dialled up the tragedy element. Let me know what you think, I'm interested to see people's take on it.

Short Notice #11: Love and Sheep (download script here)

On a distant colony a comedian in hiding falls in love with a dancer. Is it love or madness?

SHORT NOTICE: Another Idea...

Evenin, Dai Hards!

Another thought I've had rattling around my brain pan is for Short Notice to have a sort of in house artist. Someone who will draw each months script but add annotations regarding how they interpreted and approached certain panels on each page.

If you're a budding comic artist would you find this useful? Again I'd really appreciate all and any feedback, so leave a comment or email me at shortnotice.comics@gmail.com.

SHORT NOTICE: Thinking Ahead...

Hey there, Dai Hards!

I've been thinking about ways to develop Short Notice and really make it useful to artists. I'm still brainstorming ideas but an obvious way I thought of was to have a competition. Not sure on the specifics but as the prize I was thinking a $100 gift certificate to ThinkGeek.com.

Like I said I'm still working through the details and I'd really appreciate your feedback. Does a competition sound like a good idea? Any alternative suggestions on prizes? Is there anything else you would like to see from Short Notice? Whether it be in the scripts, or events and so forth.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or you can send them to shortnotice.comics@gmail.com

Until March 25th!

Short Notice #10

Evening all, I hope you’ve found the scripts so far useful. I’m still working out ideas for scripts after May so if there are any suggestions for things you want to draw let me know and I’ll try and work them into a story.
With this script I went with minimal dialogue. I’m pretty happy with it, the descriptions have a nice mix of detail and vagueness so you hopefully have a wide margin for interpretation.
Again there's now a Short Notice Tumblr page so feel free to follow and say hello. Any submissions, suggestions, or feedback are welcome and can be sent to shortnotice.comics@gmail.com
